The work so far
From late 2022 a number of consultation sessions were led by a High Street Task Force (HSTF) consultant.
These were typically attended by between 20-30 traders, residents, community group representatives and Council officers. There was much brainstorming and at the end of the sessions a ‘Place Making Programme’ report was produced by the HSTF. This is a framework for thinking about our local place with many ideas captured from the discussions.
Our vision statement
for Hamlet Court Road was also determined:
A renewed, thriving and sustainable place at our city centre with a strong identity formed from our urban character, our diverse and built heritage, and the local arts. A place where the local community, businesses and visitors successfully share a clean, safe and beautiful environment.
Now a new Working Group of around 12 people has been formed with the intention of formulating the project and then working to bring this about. Sounds easy doesn’t it, but it isn’t and will require a great deal of work and imaginative thinking over time to develop a realisable plan. It will also require the support of the Council and funding.
We are lucky to have enthusiastic economic development officer support but, as we all know, funding is most difficult at this time. But there is no doubt that much good work can be done now and in the near future.
